bio
Yoshe Li is a multimedia artist based in Toronto, working with sound, visuals, and interactive installations to explore self-identity, dreams, and the unspeakable. She holds an HBA in Architecture and Cinema Studies from the University of Toronto and an MFA in Design and Technology from Parsons School of Design. Her background in architecture, cinema, and technology informs the way she builds immersive environments—spaces where form, image, and sound merge into multi-sensory narratives.
Much of Li’s work is rooted in the experience of “in-betweenness.” Having spent her childhood in China and her adult life in Canada, she often finds herself in constant movement, never fully settled—both physically through travel and mentally through thought. This restlessness opens pathways for unexpected connections between ideas, emotions, and forms. The conflicts and unspoken tensions she encounters in daily life—whether in relationships, perspectives, or internal contradictions—become material for her practice. Because she rarely expresses these through words, art becomes her way of speaking the unspeakable.
Li’s installations often carry an eerie yet tender atmosphere. They approach the world with bravery and boldness while offering audiences an entry point with gentleness and care. Using tools such as projection mapping, sculpture, sound, and interactivity, she invites viewers not just to observe, but to play, reflect, and engage. For her, interactivity is the portal where the artist’s inner world connects with the audience’s lived experience.
